The ACJU project is composed of 3 sub-projects, in order to reach the widest possible number of youth. ACJU Escolar, the school-based initiative, works in local secondary and high schools. ACJU Deportivo, our sports and recreation initiative, works in collaboration with an established local youth soccer league to develop youth leaders. Lastly, ACJU Callejero, our street outreach project, engages youth outside of a systems context, in order to reach the “neither/nors” who many not be involved in other organized activities.
All 3 ACJU sub-projects utilize a peer education methodology in which direct participants working with project Facilitators receive mentoring, leadership and life-skills training, spiritual formation and values education, while being equipped to improve their educational goals and obtain better job opportunities. These young leaders then educate other youth and are encouraged to become agents of change. ACJU furthermore encourages youth to envision improved community conditions, helping them put community improvement projects into action.
